Important Azure Service Bus update for QueueExplorer users

Microsoft is retiring several legacy Azure Service Bus SDK libraries and the SBMP protocol on September 30, 2026.

For users of QueueExplorer v5

Since version 5.0.66 (February 2026), QueueExplorer fully supports the latest official Azure Service Bus SDK.

The new SDK is user when the transport type is configured as:

  • AMQP
  • AMQP WebScokets

It is also used when the transport type is set to “Auto” and the connection string explicitly contains the transportType parameter.

If the transport type is set to legacy SBMP, QueueExplorer will continue using the older SDK, which may cause compatibility problems as Microsoft progresses with the retirement process. Since SBMP itself is also being retired, this transport type will be disabled in a future QueueExplorer release.

For users of QueueExplorer v4

QueueExplorer v4 was originally released in 2017 and uses one of the affected SDK libraries. After Microsoft completes the retirement process, Azure Service Bus functionality in QueueExplorer v4 will no longer operate correctly.

Although the official retirement date is still ahead, we have already received reports from customers that some Azure Service Bus namespaces no longer work correctly with QueueExplorer v4. At this point, we cannot determine whether these are isolated incidents or early signs of broader compatibility changes affecting older SDKs.

Even though older v4 licenses are no longer covered by paid support (licenses included 12 months of support, and the final v4 licenses were sold in February 2023), we want to ensure existing customers can continue their work without interruption during this transition.

As an immediate compatibility measure, all QueueExplorer v4 licenses can temporarily use QueueExplorer v5 until September 1, 2026. Simply install QueueExplorer v5.0.81 or later and your existing v4 license will be accepted automatically.

In parallel, we are working on a longer-term compatibility solution for v4 users before this temporary access period expires.

At the same time, we strongly recommend planning an upgrade to the latest QueueExplorer generation. In addition to ongoing Azure compatibility updates, upcoming releases will include major improvements such as native Mac and Linux support, up-to date integrations with queueing services, and active support.
